How Fast Can You Recover Your
Business
if a Disaster Strikes?
Disasters take all shapes and forms
from Fires and Floods to Server Crashes and Corruptions that makes running your
business impossible without access to the data that you depend on. Because
a disaster occurs without warning, it can
COST your business dearly and as a result, many business owners
are re-evaluating their Business Continuity Plans and replacing their old Tape Backup
Systems with a more advanced Backup and Disaster Recovery system that gets their
business going again in hours, and not days!
What's wrong with Tape Backup Systems?
Nothing, if all you want to do is
restore a missing or deleted file. But if you need to restore your entire
Windows Server Operating System because of some type of disaster, than your Tape
Backup System just won't cut it. The reason is that Tape Backup Systems such
as Veritas Backup Exec runs as just another program under Windows. So without
Windows Server running, you can't run your Tape Backup System in a Disaster situation.
Other reasons why Tape Backup Systems are losing favor
with clients:
- Tapes are costly and need to be replaced as they wear out
- Tapes become jammed and damaged
in Tape units making them unusable
- Tapes become unreliable as they
age and fail when trying to restore
- Effective Tape Backups
require people to rotate tapes which is often overlooked.
Can I still recover using my Tape
Backups?
Yes, but only after you re-install
the Windows Server Operating System, re-installed all of the Windows Service Packs
and Windows Updates and configure all of your Windows sub-systems such as DNS, IIS,
DHCP exactly as you had it before with all of your user accounts, account permissions,
policy settings and other server settings. Once you have your server configured,
you can now re-install all of your applications programs such as your Backup Software
and your other programs such as Email, Office and your Business applications.
This will now allow you to restore your DATA from your Backup Tapes (assuming that
the tapes are in good condition to perform the restore). Not only is this
a time consuming process, but an expensive one if your being billed by the hour
by your provider.
